Bridal Aari Work Blouse: A Complete Guide for Bangalore Brides

· by Pallavi Nikhlish

Aari work is the hand embroidery that gives a bridal blouse its depth — raised motifs, zari outlines, beads and sequins worked with a hooked needle on stretched fabric. Here is everything a Bangalore bride should know before booking one.

What exactly is aari work?

Aari (also called maggam work) uses a fine hook needle to chain-stitch thread, zari, beads and stones onto fabric held taut in a wooden frame. Because the artisan works by hand, motifs can be shaped around your exact blouse pattern rather than being printed or machine-repeated.

This is why hand aari looks richer than machine embroidery in photographs — the raised surfaces catch light differently at every angle.

How long does a bridal blouse take?

A simple stitched blouse takes 3–5 days. A bridal aari blouse usually takes 10–15 days depending on coverage — sleeves only, sleeves plus neckline, or a fully worked blouse with a custom back motif.

For wedding season we recommend booking 3–4 weeks ahead so there is time for a trial and fit adjustments.

Choosing motifs that suit your saree

Heavy Kanjeevaram and Banarasi sarees already carry strong zari, so a cleaner blouse with border-matched motifs looks balanced. Lighter georgette and organza sarees can carry a fully worked blouse.

  • Temple and paisley motifs for traditional silk sarees
  • Floral vines and roses for pastel and reception looks
  • Peacock, baraat or name motifs for a custom blouse back
  • Pearl and sequin grids for a subtle party-wear shine
